Why Strength / Resistance training is important:
Resistance training, also called weight or
strength training, is vital for many aspects of
well-being: increased muscle tone, a
well-proportioned body, increased calorie
burning at rest, improved endurance, prevention
of muscle atrophy as we get older, strong bones
and skeletal structure, and prevention of sports
injuries.
Since only a minimal level of strength is needed
in order to perform daily activities, strength
(resistance) training is important in order to
develop our muscular structure. In addition,
without strength training, we can't participate
in recreational sports or hobbies without undue
risk of injury.
Research shows that resistance training has
significant benefits for both men and women of
all ages - and particularly as we age.
Research also suggests that lack of resistance
training in women thirty and older can lead to
osteoporosis in a long term due to bone loss.
This problem is more severe in postmenopausal
women because of hormones like estrogen, which
tend to decline as women age.
CBC can help you combine resistance training
into a complete physical fitness program
combining all of the
components of fitness.
